The education of international students at the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Foreign Studies University commenced in 1992. It has since developed a mature teaching model and curriculum system, establishing a comprehensive set of teaching management mechanisms, including overall instructional design, course arrangement, testing and evaluation, as well as a teaching supervision and observation system.
In accordance with the cooperative exchange agreements signed between the university and foreign institutions, the college has established close partnerships with nearly 20 overseas universities and Chinese language teaching organizations, including Daito Bunka University, Nagoya University of Commerce & Business, Nagoya University of Foreign Studies, and Okinawa Educational Foundation in Japan; Kangwon National University, Sungshin Women's University, Inje University, and Woosong University in South Korea; Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in Thailand; Central Michigan University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Vermont, and the Chicago IES Program in the United States; Sapienza University of Rome and University of Naples "L'Orientale" in Italy; the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris, France; Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany; as well as institutions within the European Union.
For a long time, the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language has established strong academic exchange and cooperative relationships with universities in Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Italy, and other countries. Institutions such as the Japanese NPO International Exchange Education Support Association, the Malaysian government, and the Malaysian MARA Group annually select students to study in the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Furthermore, the department has implemented the "3+1" program with Kansai University in Japan, the "2+2" programs with Busan University of Foreign Studies and Woosong University in South Korea, as well as the "2+1" program with Sapienza University of Rome in Italy.
Over ten renowned international universities, including the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Louisville, Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States; Lancaster University in the United Kingdom; Peoples' Friendship University of Russia; Daito Bunka University and Nagoya University of Foreign Studies in Japan; as well as Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul National University, Pusan National University, and Hanyang University in South Korea, consistently organize students to participate in short-term Chinese language training programs at our institution.
