The 16th Postgraduate Academic Forum of the School of Chinese Language and Literature was held on November 16, 2019. Participants in this forum included more than 100 master's and doctoral students in various specialties and 23 commenting teachers. The forum session covers many fields such as literature and culture, linguistics, Chinese international education, etc. It takes the form of “point and surface combination ” —— the mutual evaluation of postgraduate students as the main part and the teachers' suggestions as the auxiliary part. In the multi discourse communication, teachers and students in the school have expanded their academic horizons, improved their academic qualities and cultivated their innovation abilities.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Zhang Xiaohui, Executive Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, pointed out that the characteristics and mission of academic research in BFSU lies in "introducing China to the world", advocating the simultaneous development of “East Learning to the West” and “West Learning to the East”. The content and discussion of the Postgraduate Academic Forum of the School of Chinese Language and Literature deeply reflected this feature and mission. Dean Zhang also pointed out that postgraduate education bears the dual mission of “high-end talent training” and “research innovation” in higher education, and this academic forum implements such a training concept on the main body and goals.
This forum focuses on the postgraduates as well as academic exchange, following the good tradition of “accumulating knowledge and making progress by way of academic debating”. Apart from students from BFSU in Beijing campus , we have also included 8 extra postgraduates from Peking University and Minzu University of China and 15 BFSU students in Foshan campus. During the process of debating academically between students and teachers , most of the students got indicated and improved on academic writing.
In the closing ceremony of this forum ,Fang Zhisong, the assistant to the Executive Dean of Zhang Xiaohui made a speech. He expressed his expectations for the students to actively engaged in academic debating through all kinds of academic forums as this one and the academic forum for postgraduates from China, Japan and the South Korea. He also said his wishes for this forum to be better in the days to come.
The School of Chinese Language and Literature annually holds Postgraduate Academic Forum since 2004, which serves as a platform to exchange academic views for the School of Chinese Language and Literature of BFSU, other universities and schools. It also contributed positively to creating an academic atmosphere for freshers of the postgraduates by raising the awareness of academic innovation as well as the skills on academic writing.
