On the morning of November 15th, The College of Chinese Language and Literature held an online seminar of "Learners’ Corpus Construction and Application". Zhang Xiaohui, the executive dean and the leader of the project of "the Chinese dynamic developing corpus for foreign students", presided over the seminar. Eight renowned corpus experts from Chinese, foreign languages and technology field delivered keynote speeches.
The conference themes include the concepts and methods of corpus research and its application in second language acquisition, corpus construction and processing technology, as well as the application of learners’ corpus in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Professor Song Rou, from Beijing Language and Culture University, analyzed the sharing structure of thread of discourse in Chinese clauses complex. Professor Chen Xiaohe, from Nanjing Normal University, presented the design structure and construction process of the earliest Chinese Interlanguage Corpus and reflected the limitations of previous work. Professor Zhang Baolin, from Beijing Language and Culture University, explained the features and functions of the Global Chinese Interlanguage Corpus. Professor Xun Endong, from Beijing Language and Culture University, introduced the technology of corpus construction and retrieval. Professor Liang Maocheng, from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, expounded the problems related to the learner corpus. Professor Li Wenzhong, from Zhejiang Gongshang University, emphasized the importance of data and integration during the process of design and application of the corpus. Professor Wei Naixing, from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, analyzed the analysis-model of current learner corpus data. Professor Xu Jiajin, from Beijing Foreign Studies University, compared the design and construction of interlanguage corpus through "a story of pear". Experts and professors from the Chinese and foreign languages fields put forward numerous strategic opinions and suggestions on the construction, labeling and application of learner corpus, which attracted more than 280 teachers and students from the College of Chinese Language and Literature of BFSU and other universities all over the country to watch the seminar online.
In the afternoon, the project team consulted the experts on the work of “the Chinese dynamic developing corpus for foreign students”. Experts affirmed this project and gave some constructive suggestions.
This seminar is a significance activity in promoting linguistics development. It will play a positive role in the long-lasting development of corpus project and building a discipline team.
