On the afternoon of November 18th 2020, Zhan Furui, Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Foreign Studies University ,former Secretary of the Party committee and head leader of the National Library of China, made a lecture entitled Reading and Studying at Wenhua Hall. The lecture was presided over by Mr. Han Zhenhua, director of Chinese department.
Starting from his own reading experience and understanding, Mr. Zhan Furui talked about the path and method from reading to studying. First of all, he started with the relationship between reading and students, and he pointed out that the main task of students is reading. By cultivating the interest of reading, books can accompany you like a partner even if you leave the campus. Then he mentioned that the main path of studying is reading. He also raised three questions existing in reading and studying, and shared solutions. The first question: reading, but no harvest. The second question: reading, but cannot find problems. Mr. Zhan thought that the most important way to upgraded from perceptual reading to rational reading was to read more books, and entered the stage of doubting books. The third question: reading, but cannot write articles. Mr. Zhan believed that we should improve this ability through academic writing training. Finally, Mr. Zhan pointed out that the great scholars are those who break through the barriers between the past and the present. In response to the "academic aphasia" in China's academic circle, we should combine the Chinese and western academic knowledge in both ancient and modern times.
All the teachers and students said that Mr. Zhan's lecture had lofty ideas, profound thoughts and strong theoretical and ideological content. It was very inspiring and refreshing to hear it. During the communication, students actively asked questions about the bottleneck problems encountered in the process of reading, the value of ancient literature to contemporary society, and the balance between monograph reading and extensive reading. Mr. Zhan patiently and carefully answered the questions.
Mr. Han Zhenhua summed up Mr. Zhan's wonderful lecture, and used Chen Hongshou's poem "if you turn over the number of books, you will be worthy of three meals" to arouse the enthusiasm of teachers and students present. In the warm applause of teachers and students, Mr. Zhan's lecture came to a successful end.
