Mr. Zhong Zhenzhen, the Distinguished Professor of Nanjing Normal University, Delivered an Academic Lecture for All Teachers and Students in BFSU

Time:2021-05-21

On the afternoon of April 30th, 2021, Mr. Zhong Zhenzhen, professor and doctoral supervisor of Faculty of Liberal Arts of Nanjing Normal University, general consultant of "Chinese poetry Conference" of CCTV and Chinese Poetry Society, vice president of global Chinese Poetry Association, and distinguished Professor of Wenjin Forum in the National Library of China, gave a lecture entitled "National Civil Servant Examination in Song Dynasty and Cultural Elites Governance " to all teachers and students. The speech was hold in the Lecture Hall on the 4th floor of school library. Professor Zhan Furui, who is the dean of Chinese language and Literature School, presided over this lecture.

Starting from the official system in the pre-Qin period, Professor Zhong combed the official system, talent system and imperial examination system of Han Dynasty, Wei and Jin Dynasty, Sui and Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty. In particular, he said that Fan Zhongyan was a well-known scholar in the history of literature in the Song Dynasty, but what we may not know is that this famous scholar was actually an excellent official with outstanding governance abilities. When Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province were stricken by famine, Fan organized the activity of "Dragon Boat Race" to stimulate domestic demand and revitalize the economy. This activity fundamentally solved the famine of Hangzhou and he also won the recognition of the emperor. Fan's brilliant act of rescuing famine in Hangzhou was followed by other places. This example shows that in the Song Dynasty and even in the history of ancient literature, the official litterateurs were not only good at poetry, but also have talent and the ability to stabilize the country. Zhong told students that whether they are civil servants or teachers, and whether they are "officials" or "scholars", they should possess good cultural quality. Finally, Professor Zhong taught the students two skills of appreciation: the first one is to score each work; the second one is to summarize and compare, learning to compare the shortcomings and differences of the same theme works. Through an extensive and long-term reading, you can accumulate more knowledge and improve your appreciating level.

After the lecture, Professor Zhan highly praised it. Zhong explained profound theories in simple language, spelling it out and not pretending to be profound, which gave a great academic feast to students of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
